10 Short Studies On Ubiquity explore the basics of spatial experience – location and environment – in the form of ten electronic miniatures for full 3D surround sound. Focusing on the creation of hybrid spaces, each short piece tries to portray a different urban or natural landscape, almost as a series of sound postcards, using recordings of consonants as their only material. Formally, the piece suggests a non-linear progression from plosives and stop consonants, to nasals and fricatives and ending with pure airstreams. As a result, the pieces will progressively use sounds with slower attacks and less defined spatial locations, until reaching a point where sound is everywhere and nowhere at the same time. These studies were created using the ambisonics technique for the spatial design, the wavelets technique for analysis and re-synthesis of sounds and recordings of consonants as spoken by an adult female.
